Captured earlier this summer as part of the winners’ weekend for the Faces of Sundown competition, which encouraged entrants to submit reasons why they’d like to visit the park and why they should be picked as winners, five families got to experience the ultimate weekend and had free access to every ride, play area and attraction that the long-standing theme park has to offer.
Retford welcomed an exciting new addition to its town centre on Saturday 2 Aug, as The Hummingbird Collective officially opened its doors at 10am. Located at 21 The Square, in the beautifully repurposed former NatWest Bank building, this creative collective offers far more than just a shopping experience—it's a celebration of passion, craftsmanship, and community.
After a brief stop at Edinburgh Woollen Mill, to check out their sale, and Edi’z Kitchen for refreshment, they arrived outside Penington’s Electrical where the 70th Anniversary Celebrations were well under way. Jessica Mary Brett was giving her usual brilliant singing performance, when the team at Penington’s came out to say hello, joined by Bassetlaw Bear and the Euronics Penguin. It is great to see Penington’s high quality service and products have sustained them through 70 years of retailing and serving the people in and around Retford. As well as the usual Farmers Market, Craft Market and Traditional Market there will be the first Retford Young Traders Market. Students from Retford Elizabethan Academy will be joining the markets as part of an initiative let by Retford Town Centre Partnership Board and supported by Retford Business Forum, Bassetlaw District Council, North Notts BID and Elizabethan Academy. The idea is to give students real experience of working in a customer-focused environment whilst being supported by their school and external experts. Why not come and say hello to the students!

Retford Civic Society and the Chesterfield Canal Trust
Retford Civic Society and the Chesterfield Canal Trust have worked together to have the plaque made and installed. Cllr Dan Henderson and Cllr John Manners covered the cost from their Community Funds.
At the 2023 Babworth Arts Festival, there will be a fantastic range of original paintings and other works from artists and art groups based in and around Retford – some of which will be available for sale. A brilliant display of quilts will also be on display with contributions from Retford U3A and individual quilters.
More stalls, more crafts, more entertainment……..stallholders are travelling from across the country including Leicester, York, and Chesterfield, as well as a wide range of local vendors. Retford Town Hall will have craft stalls in the Ballroom, Council Chamber and the Buttermarket where there will be a Café supplied by the Mayflower WI. Santa will be in his grotto all afternoon in the Town Hall after saying hello on stage at 12noon.
