The Sherwood Forest Trust

Crowdfunder Sows Seeds for Tomorrow in Sherwood Forest

The Trust is teaming up with local horticulture project Feel Good Gardens in a plan to set up a community tree nursery near Sherwood Pines Forest Park.  The Trust will hold ‘seed hunts’ each year to collect seed, and service users at Feel Good Gardens CIC will tend and grow them into baby trees, ready to be planted out in Nottinghamshire. Nottinghamshire Dovecotes

Dovecotes, also known as pigeon lofts, largely date back to the Roman times, although the oldest known in Britain dates to around AD1000 and the oldest in Nottinghamshire to about the 14th century. There are believed to be around 20,000 dovecotes in England, and of these an impressive 400 can be found in Nottinghamshire. Originally only the rich and/or powerful were allowed to build them, such as Lords of the manor, clergy, substantial farmers and monasteries, although over time the rules were relaxed.
