The advent of the cool, crisp air ushers in the winter season and a search for the quintessential beer with an alcohol warmth, or that extra special beer to drink on Christmas day?
In 2023 the Brewery created Duchess, a limited-edition beer originally planned to celebrate a decade of the Brewery in 2021 (mid-pandemic), and consequently released for this coming winter season.
Duchess is a luxurious beer with sweet fig and raisin aromas which dominate initially, followed by a robust, sherry-like richness. This beer is a homage to all the celebrated women of Welbeck and those that are yet to be discovered.
James Gladman, Head Brewer and Tom Roe, Packaging Manager from Welbeck Abbey Brewery commented, “We are extremely proud of Duchess and the finest ingredients we used in the brew. The Heritage Chevallier malt imparts beautiful caramel biscuit tones and is supported by subtle herbal flavours from Phoenix hops. Fermentation with a classic Abbey yeast gives this beer fruity-ester flavour.”
Whilst strictly speaking Duchess is a 12-year celebratory beer it has hopefully been worth the wait and who knows if there will be a Duke joining the Duchess soon?
