Claire has worked as a professional photographer for over six years, covering weddings and families, as well as commercial work too. Based in Newark, she has a great knowledge of working with Nottinghamshire wedding venues, as well as being happy to travel further a-field.
“My passion is weddings! I adore them. I love the vibe and excitement of a wedding day and building up great relationships with my couples. I pride myself on taking a genuine interest in my couples, getting to know them ahead of their wedding.”
Working with couples ahead of the wedding day, Claire ensures that they have at least two pre-wedding chats where she can find out about them, talk about their day and what they want it to look like. Claire explains, “It’s so important to establish who the VIP's are at my weddings, be organised with timings and know my couples well enough, that I can turn up, crack on, join in and capture their wedding day! I genuinely love being a part of it!”
Claire isn’t shy about joining in with the day to put everyone at ease, especially when it comes to little ones, “I've got five children... yes five! So, I’m great with kids, used to madness and happy to muck in and get my hands dirty!”
Every couple has a different vision of how their day will work and as a photographer it is important to keep everything as natural as possible, make everyone feel at ease to capture the best moments. Claire says, “Being a wedding photographer for so long has taught me many things and I'm always happy to pass on advice to my couples and keen to help on the run up and on the big day. I love to take natural photos of the day as it happens, but of course, we want to ensure that we get photos of those VIP's and some couple shots.
Claire’s experience working with couples, families and groups means that the happy couple can concentrate on themselves and enjoying family time while she captures the key moments of the day and can advise how to create perfect photographs too.
“I recommend keeping group shots to a minimum - around 8-10 and we have some fun with them too! During couple shots, I'll take my couples off for a walk, I love movement and natural photos and moments. I love to have the banter with my couples, I know it’s difficult being in front of the camera and I want my couples to feel as relaxed as possible. I also love photographing details. Couples pay a lot for flowers, shoes, wedding outfits, stationary etc... I make sure I take photos of everything and like to get creative! I want my couples to look back at their photos and be able to re-live their day from start to finish through their gallery.”
As well as making sure the essential elements during the Wedding are captured, Claire also looks for the magic in the room, the photographs that are unplanned, a little surprising moment that makes that perfect snapshot in time.
“I'm all for the candid’s too - any laughing, silliness or ugly crying and I'm on it! Capturing reactions are an absolute favourite and it’s great to share these moments with a photo I've captured without someone realising!”
