A Nottinghamshire town is set to be taken over with Good Friday fun in aid of local Newark charity, Beaumond House Hospice Care.

The hospice, which provides free palliative care for people in Newark and Sherwood, is hosting an Easter Fun Day in Newark Market Place. The event will raise vital funds to allow the charity to continue supporting local people to live well and die well.

Taking place on 29th March between 10am and 3pm, the Fun Day will feature a variety of activities including inflatables, Easter crafts, face painting, teddy tombola, crazy golf, biscuit decorating, egg and spoon races and a disco.

Visitors are also encouraged to take part in the Chicken Run - a 2.5 kilometre fun run (or walk) around Newark Town Centre involving optional Easter-themed fancy dress and chocolate eggs collection.

Matt Colbourne, Head of Fundraising and Communications at Beaumond House, said:

“We’re thrilled to be hosting our second Easter Fun Day in Newark, which will offer an exciting family day out over the Easter bank holiday weekend.

“With a number of indoor and outdoor activities on offer, there will be something for everyone, come rain or shine - and we look forward to seeing lots of impressive fancy dress costumes for the Chicken Run!

“Not only will the event provide an opportunity for the community to come together for some Easter fun, but it will also raise vital funds to allow us to continue providing specialist palliative care and support to our patients and their families.

“It costs around £1.7 million every year for us to deliver our services and, as hospice care isn’t fully funded by the NHS, around £1.2 million of this must be raised through donations, shops and local businesses. The funds raised from the Easter Fun Day will be invaluable as we continue to give our patients dignity and independence, when every moment matters.”

Richard Gelsthorpe, Managing Director at Pratt and Gelsthorpe Peugeot, the event’s headline sponsor, said:

“As ever, we’re delighted to continue our support for Beaumond House and the outstanding work they carry out in the community. We’re pleased to sponsor this event for a second year, and we’re sure all those taking part will have an enjoyable day whilst raising vital funds for this much-needed local service.”
